Nelson Financial Consultants (https://nelsonfinancial.ca/) is a wholly owned subsidiary of BCV Asset Management Inc. which provides financial planning, portfolio management and insurance services to high-net-worth families. The Nelson Financial Consultants team is comprised of four Certified Financial Planners, one registered portfolio manager and 3 licensed insurance advisors. We provide fee-for-service financial planning, custom discretionary portfolio management and insurance products.

Educational Requirement:

Post-secondary education, particularly the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation as well as a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation, or are currently a CFA Charterholder, or a CFA Level II or Level III Candidate.

Tasks, Role & Responsibilities

Ideally you will have some experience in each of the following areas;


  • Financial Planning:

    • Passionately committed to success and the best interests of the client.

    • Assess clients’ current financial picture and provide direction on the ideal path forward.

    • Delegate to the financial planning team more complex financial analysis where needed.

    • Solid understanding of tax, cross-boarder issues, corporations and trusts is beneficial.

  • Portfolio Management:

    • Review and assess the risk profile of a client portfolio.

    • Communicate effectively to clients their portfolio holdings and risk profile.

    • Construct and implement new portfolios based on a client’s objectives and risk profile.

    • Maintain compliance requirements while also providing a high level of proactive service.

    • Manage the cash needs of the portfolio, making buy and sell decisions as needed.

    • Monitoring portfolio suitability and performance over time.

  • Securities Analysis:

    • Working with the senior portfolio manager assessing investment product options for tax-efficiency purposes.

    • Familiarity with Alternative investments and exchange traded funds.

    • Knowledge in Fundamental, Technical and Quantitative research on individual securities.

  • Tech savvy, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and investment management applications.

  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development.

  • 10+ years of related work experience in the financial services industry, with an unblemished record of regulatory compliance.
